 The Fraed is a musician from Vienna, Austria. He began singing in the local church choir as a child, later receiving classical music training (flute, double bass), but later switched to jazz and rock – and has never looked back... He plays numerous instruments and has basically been making music of various styles his entire life: from baroque to free jazz – he even played in an ensemble for traditional austrian alpine folk music, the ‘Thalheimer Stub'nmusi’.
Later, he played in several local bands and projects in Vienna (The Continental Change, Art Game Rhythm Tube, Meet The Beat, etc.), worked as a studio musician for several years and toured half of Europe. A few years ago, he started his solo project under his stage name The Fraed in order to realise his musical ideas without compromise.

Most of the instruments and vocals on this track were recorded and produced by The Fraed himself:

"I want to record the material I love, no matter how long it takes – and sometimes it takes an incredibly long time before I'm satisfied. A nightmare for any producer who has budgets and deadlines in mind. But I don't accept half measures when it comes to producing my music. I do my best and am grateful for any help – but I also insist on controlling the entire process: from songwriting to recording to release. That slows everything down, but art needs time to mature, and I need time to develop."

Mermaid Island has been brewing chaos in the underground LA punk scene since fall of 2022. Founded by Canadian vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter Alex MacDonald, the band quickly became known for their high-octane performances. Based on building and protecting the DIY community, Mermaid Island is about connecting with each other in real life, and creating more space for charged, purposeful aggression. 

 “It was always about the shows. We have as much fun playing for no one in our lockout as we do for a packed crowd.” says MacDonald. The band solidified their presence in the LA scene before ever setting foot in a studio. They tracked most of their debut album live off the floor in two days, holding onto the same energy that keeps their shows magnetic. Mermaid Island is creating a space where people feel inspired to pick up their own instruments. “We just want to play shows with our friends so we can remember what joy feels like on this shit show planet.” 

 Mermaid Island’s sound blends high energy punk rock with early 2000s pop-punk, heavy east-coast Canadian influences, melodic vocals, and folk-tinged chord progressions.
