Off-grid power
SENTINEL keeps KDBR on the air
We're building a fully off-grid power system in Soldotna so KDBR can stay on the air. Right now the station still needs a generator: 7 gallons a day at $4.99, which is $34.93 a day and $1,047.90 in a 30-day month.
The other bills are separate. Internet $185, website $44, Figma $20, X and Grok $60, Google Workspace $1.85 for the first three months. With fuel, a 30-day month is $1,358.75. Donations do not pay those bills.
The Donations are for turbines, hybrid controllers, dump loads, wiring, breakers, and materials, so the power system can hold the station longer than the generator does now. When it's in, the parts get bought and the work gets done.

Our story and goals
How it got started
Homer Electric wanted a fortune just to set a meter. We built our own plant instead. We call the company EOTW. We call the cabinet SENTINEL.
It runs the house, the studio, KDBR, and a couple of neighbors. Solar when the sky means it. Generator when it does not. Winter is the expensive season. That is the whole plot.
This Years Goal
Burn less gasoline. Hold charge through weather. Stay on later than 11 p.m. without lying about it.
What we need:
With winter fast approaching and fuel costs on the rise in order to stay online SENTINEL and the generator system will needs some upgrades.
The Biggest two on our list are:
- Minimum 15kw Wind generating capacity
- 10 12v deep cycle marine batteries
In theory this would be enough to stop the use of our generator for the most part, allowing the fund spent on fuel to be put towards further upgrades. Any funds received will be going to these 2 major upgrades.
